This was the last available direct flight from Moscow to China. Skaters will miss the team tournament, which starts on February 4, and will be able to fly to Beijing via Krasnoyarsk in time for the start of the dance pairs competition. The next such flights are scheduled for February 6 and 7.

The remaining skaters of the Russian national team arrived in China on February 1.

Stepanova and Bukin are two-time champions of Russia, two-time silver medalists of the European Championships.

Then why weren’t other skaters who are not in the team event able to travel early? It doesn’t make sense. And usually if it’s covid, they would just tell us. I suppose it could be anything. Bukin has a new baby, maybe the baby is sick. Or the mother. I just feel like something isn’t right. Nikita has a bad back. You’d think they’d want S/B there just in case.

It is extremely odd they would miss the flight.

Well probably they were told that they will not skate in the team event and they decided not to risk staying in Olympic village for so long before the individual competitions. Or maybe also some issues with positive tests.
