Tatiana Volosozhar and Maxim Trankov are ready to come back

Honestly last season I was sceptical about their come back. Ksenia Stolbova and Fedor Klimov on the beginning of the last season looked strong and powerful as main contenders for the World titel. Seemed that Russian pairs could dominate till next Olympics. But the Canadians and Chineses didn’t waste their time.

Maksim Trankov was really hars commenting the competition on TV, he also wasn’t modest (even offensive) in words in his interviews. So, it really didn’t look like Volosozhar and Trankov are going to compete again. Planing the wedding also was another sign that maybe they won’t come back.

But Tatiana and Maxim surprised me with their good shape and promising programs at the Russian test skates. What can I say, they are for sure the first Russian pair. The main question is whether the judges are waiting for them too?

I like her short program. It’s bright with lots of indian moves in combination with great technique. This program suits their temper and will definitely highlight their strengths.

I also like a lot Tatiana’s costume! So many details, nice colors and amazing necklace! I wish they changed Maxim’s costume to something more bright.

I was really excited about their free dance! Just after the premier of the Van Helsing movie I was waiting when someone will take this music for his program. Especially the Transilvania piece! Amazing colorful music, dynamic and powerful! Tatiana and Maxim haven’t used exactly this piece but I like their music cut a lot. This program has lots of potential but they still need time for preparation. They will face Megan Duhamel and Eric Radford at NHK Trophy and this battle will be extremely exciting!

I also like the costumes. Tatiana wears beautiful dress of vine color. Simple, elegant and slightly remind the dress from the movie. Maxim’s costume has some Balkan notes and fits to the program. Great work.

After the test skates I can say that Tatiana Volosozhar and Maxim Trankov is definitely number one team in Russia but whether this is enough for another World title? The quality of their elements is high as usually, the programs look interesting but I doubt that they will receive the same marks (especially components score) like in Olympic season. Their return won’t be easy but competition in pairs at Worlds promise to be extremely exiting!

The situation in Russian ice dance doesn’t look so predictable but promise to be very interesting. See the short and free dances of the Russian ice dancers.
