Evgenia: To be honest, mental health is a huge part of my life. Often I have problems with this. I will not talk about it publicly, but I have some problems.

Like many athletes, sometimes I think: “What if I can’t? What if I fall?” and this is absolutely not a healthy thing. The only thing I say to myself is that I’m good at it, I have been jumping triples for almost 10 years. Over this 10 years I have done these jumps thousands of times, so why can’t I do it now?

It helps me. Sometimes you don’t have to prove anything to anyone, you have to prove it to yourself. This is the hardest way.

As for my health, to be honest, I think I’m lucky because my body heals very well. At last year’s World Championships, I got injured during a short program. And it was a very serious injury.

Doctors told me that I should stop skating for at least a month and should be treated for about six months. But about a month later, I thought that I could no longer sit and do nothing. I began to skate a little, carefully.

My doctor texted to me, asked how did I feel, and I answered” “I’m already jumping,” and he said, “Are you crazy?” I did an x-ray, everything healed in two months. That is, I was already jumping triples.

I still have health problems that can’t be solved, for example, my back. So I don’t do the layback spin anymore, but this is not such a big problem as long as I get level four for spins and my jumps are fine.

Have you ever thought about quitting figure skating?

– I have never thought about it, never. I think this is for the rest of my life. Whether it’s coaching, skating in shows or some kind of social activity, creating something of my own. And even when I stop competing, I won’t give up figure skating, I love it.

Are you happy with your life right now?

– Yes, I am completely satisfied with my life, I feel like one of the happiest people in the world. I must be grateful to many people for my life. I was lucky to be in the right place in the right time.

My fans are amazing, my coaches and former coaches, the coaches with whom I started to skate, Brian, Tracy, people who surround me. My friends are awesome and I’m lucky to have them.

That is why I call myself the happiest person. Not always of course, there were good times and there were some dark times. I’ve experienced some difficulties, but this is life. Bad things make us stronger.

What was the most difficult moment in life?

– I think it was time after the Olympics. I needed to change my life. It was a very difficult decision. It was like in complete darkness, you don’t know what your next week will be.

I did not know whether it would be good to move to Canada, how I would work with Brian, where I would live. And I was recovering from an injury, so I didn’t skate for about 5 months, that’s a lot. It was the most difficult part of my life, but it meant a lot to me, because now I say: “Yes, I am strong.”

What inspired you to continue to skate?

– You, guys! No, its true. You really inspire me, you are part of my life in figure skating, you help me skate. Sometimes, when I’m very tired, when I don’t want to do anything, I just remember that I have a reason to continue to skate, it’s amazing.

I have a reason to push myself, a reason to overcome injuries, pain. You have saved my life in figure skating many, many times.
