Evgenia Medvedeva shared a story from her childhood that shaped her attitude toward figure skating and hard work. Here’s a translation.
“Evgenia Medvedeva: What inspired me in figure skating? After a practice where I either slacked off or didn’t train well and didn’t behave very well, my mom sat me down and said: “Zhenya, we have a small family – just you, me, and grandma. I work two, sometimes three jobs. I earn money to provide for myself, you, and grandma, so we have clothes to wear and food for breakfast, lunch, and dinner. Grandma takes care of the house, drives you to practice, cooks, cleans, walks the dogs, and keeps our home running. In small families like ours, it’s always important that everyone has their own role.”
And when my mom said, “Your job is your figure skating. Your job is to go and train well. It’s very important to always do your job well. You have your practices, so please do your job well,” it really stuck with me, Medvedeva told.
