Kazuki Tomono (27) finished fourth at Skate Canada with errors in his free skate, falling just short of the podium. Despite the result, he remains optimistic and looks to improve ahead of Skate America as he fights for a spot at the Milan-Cortina Olympics. Here’s a translation of his comments posted on Nikkansports.

“Each competition is a turning point to see how well I can perform under these circumstances. On the positive side, I’ve made progress, and the number of avoidable mistakes has decreased. But there are still areas I could refine further,” Tomono reflected after the competition.

Tomono’s free skate started on a strong note as he landed a quadruple toe loop-double toe loop combination. However, he fell on both his solo quadruple toe loop and quadruple salchow attempts. He also under-rotated his triple loop, resulting in a point deduction and lost balance during his final spin.

“I don’t think there was anything shocking about my mistakes. But if I ask myself whether I delivered everything perfectly as usual, the answer is no,” he admitted candidly.

Looking ahead to his next competition, Skate America, the fifth Grand Prix event scheduled for November 14–16 in Lake Placid, Tomono expressed his determination: “Even if I make mistakes on my jumps, I want to give everything I have in all other aspects of my performance.”
