In the interview at the World Team Trophy, Shun Sato spoke about preparation for World Team Trophy. Here’s a translation of his comment.

“During the ice shows, I was able to observe other skaters’ performances and incorporate aspects of their expression into my own. I hope to continue developing my expressiveness on the ice,” Shun told about the areas he worked on after the World Championships.

“It was incredible to see performances from top-level skaters. In particular, I was deeply impressed by Mao Asada. She begins her performance with slow, deliberate skating, and even the simplest movements were captivating. Her performance drew you in even when she wasn’t jumping — it was mesmerizing. I hope to create performances like that myself.”

“I haven’t done too much in terms of specific adjustments — it’s just been a natural progression from previous training. I’ve been practicing jumps during ice shows, and my training is going well now. I think my current condition is good, so I don’t see any issues.”

Speaking about how his mindset changed compared to the previous competitions, he mentioned “My approach to this competition will be quite different. At the previous event, I was so nervous that I couldn’t perform as I wanted. This time, I hope to skate without nerves and focus on delivering my best.”

When interviewer asked “This is a team competition ahead of the Milan Olympics next year. How are you approaching it with the Olympics in mind?” Shun replied: “I personally enjoy team competitions, and I want to do my best to contribute even just a little to the team effort. Together, we’ll work hard.”

“As preparation for next season, my goal is to deliver a clean program with a quad jump layout that includes four quads. I haven’t achieved a clean performance yet, so I hope to do it here and build momentum for the next season.”

He also spoke about Kaori Sakamoto as a captain, saying “She’s amazing, not just during the competition but even in everyday situations. She truly lifts the spirits of the whole team and is incredibly reliable. It’s tough to say I could match her leadership, but I’d like to cheer her on as much as I can.”
