Junhwan Cha about winning silver at the 2025 Four Continents Championships. Here’s a translation of his comments posted on MFocus.
In the mixed zone after the event, Junhwan Cha expressed his satisfaction, “I’m happy about the comeback in the free skate because there were some mistakes in the short program. Although I started well with the first jump, there was a minor mistake later which is disappointing.” He also commented on the physical demands of consecutive competitions, “Managing my stamina has been challenging, but there’s time until the World Championships to recover my condition and improve on my shortcomings.”
When asked about injury management, he explained, “My ankle is being treated consistently. There is always some discomfort when wearing skates, especially during landings, but I’m managing not to let it worsen with continual treatment and training.”
Junhwan Cha, who finished fifth in the same venue’s Four Continents Championships back in 2020, expressed his joy at winning a silver medal five years later. “I was fifth five years ago, but now I’m really happy to have achieved my goal. Despite the challenges of injuries earlier this season, I’m motivated by the progress and results I’m seeing.”
He also expressed deep gratitude for the support from fans. “Competing at home is always special. I’m truly thankful for the fans’ support which gave me strength. I want to continue competing and show my best thanks to the constant support from fans.”
As for the upcoming World Championships, he told “I will prepare with a higher degree of perfection for the World Championships and strategize carefully since Olympic qualification is at stake.” Regarding his fellow competitor, Hyungyeom Kim, he said, “Although Hyungyeom Kim is a young athlete, I believe he is preparing diligently. The pressure of qualifying can be intense, but gaining experience is important. I’ll do my best to achieve a good result.”
As for the technical content planned for Worlds, Junhwan mentioned “I am not considering downgrading. I will carefully decide between enhancing perfection in my current routines and trying new elements, keeping in mind the possibility of adding a quadruple jump.”
Now he plans to take a short break before preparing for the World Championships. “Resting well and recovering my physical condition is crucial,” he said, committed to finishing the season strongly.
