The ice show, “Hyoen 2024 -The Miracle of the Cross Star”, starring Daisuke Takahashi, opened on June 8th at Yokohama Arena. It is a contemporary fantasy based on the motif of Kenji Miyazawa’s Night on the Galactic Railroad. It features 38 performers including skaters, actors, and dancers. The skaters have lines and songs, while the actors and singers are also on the ice in skates.

“Including expression through words, I realized I love expressing myself.” Takahashi mentioned this prior to the first performance.

“The first time I had lines and a song was during “Hyoen 2019 Just Like Moonlight”. It was really hard for me because I was very shy when we started rehearsing. But in the end, I really enjoyed acting and realized that I love expressing myself, including with words.”

“As I told you, my lines play an important role in developing the story,” said Takahashi. “I want to really feel my inner self and express that. My role this time is to guide. Unlike “LUXE” or “Just Like Moonlight” where you proceed with the emotions of a young man, I’ll be conveying more internal things. It’s quite a different character from before. In that sense, I want to really feel my inner self and express that,” shared Takahashi.

Takahashi called the theme of “Hyoen 2024 The Miracle of the Cross Star” – “self-sacrifice.”

“I hope that this play will encourage people to think about what they can do for others and to take a fresh look at themselves.  On the stage, there are various frustrations and obstacles, such as disasters and fraud. Still, I hope to convey the message to overcome various things and move towards hope,” he said.

Takahashi said he had thought a lot about what self-sacrifice is after getting the script.

“I thought a lot about what self-sacrifice is. I myself think that self-sacrifice is something you do because you are convinced, and would like to do it for someone. It’s something you decided to do because you wanted to, not because it’s for someone else. On the contrary, I don’t think it’s self-sacrifice to impose that you did it for them. In the end, I felt that you can’t value others if you can’t value yourself. Since realizing that, I’ve been able to think: ‘This is what I wanted to do and did it,’ without seeking a return from others.”

In addition, “The greatest self-sacrifice would be from your parents. I realize again how amazing that is,” said Takahashi.
