Here’s a translation of Kaori Sakamoto’s comments about Japanese Nationals from the article posted on Sports Graphis Number Web.
“I was so nervous that I could barely breathe,” said Kaori after the official practice at the Japanese Nationals which didn’t go well for her.
Her coach, Sonoko Nakano said, “She was too tense and the jumps weren’t working at all. She wasn’t stabele emotionally. The efforts of the younger skaters became quite a pressure, and it seemed challenging for her,” she explained the reason.
Sakamoto also acknowledged the enthusiasm of the younger generation, stating, “I understand the junior skaters’ feelings of wanting to win against senior skaters, and I felt that I can not let them surpass me at the Japanese Nationals. I had to do my best to compete and achieve results.”
As for her further plans for the season, Kaori said, “The goal of winning three consecutive titles at the World Championships has been my target throughout this season, and I really want to achieve it.”
