Kamila Valieva shared her feelings after her performance at the 2022 Olympics. She took forth place in the individual event. Here’s translation of her comments made for Channel One.

“I was probably lucky to perform four times (twice in the team event and individually). The first two times, you don’t even realize that you are at the Olympics. When it is your ultimate goal, you are already standing in the starting position and thinking: this is what I’ve been working towards for so long. And at some point, you just don’t understand, you find yourself in some kind of stupor, in a completely incomprehensible place.

In reality, this Olympics… Your goal was to give your best. The medals that you have… I don’t even know, it’s difficult to reason, sorry… You need to appreciate what you have.

Perhaps the fourth place is sadder, when you were a step away from the results, from third, from second, from first… It just didn’t happen. It’s frustrating, but there is something to strive for.

I said (in an interview with Channel One four years ago) that a silver medal is not quite the same. But speaking on a larger scale, you have a medal, you are among the winners, you earned that medal. Fourth place is perhaps more disappointing than second,” Valieva said.
