The press conference for the start of the 2023-2024 figure skating season’s Grand Prix (GP) series was held on the 8th in Tokyo. Here’s the translation of Kaori Sakamoto’s comment, originally posted on Hochi News.

Speaking about this season, Kaori mentioned that her theme for this season is “being natural.” She explained, saying, “Last season, I lost sight of my true self until the GP Final. This season, I’ve been in good form since the early part of the season, so I hope to continue skating as myself without forgetting that.”

Regarding her goals for the season she with a determination, “I want to win a medal this year. I believe that if I focus on each competition and perform at my best, the results will follow.”

During the Q&A session, she was asked by an elementary school student about her “switching methods.” She revealed, “After a bad performance, I allow myself to cry as much as I want on that day and let out all the negativity.” She added, “I do everything I need to do and then approach the next competition with a mindset like, ‘Let’s do everything I can.’ If the shift in my mindset goes well, I often perform really well in the next competition.”

Kaori Sakamoto will participate in Skate Canada and grand-prix in Finland.
