Former Japanese national champion in figure skating, Rika Kihira (21), has decided to withdraw from the second event of the 2023 Grand Prix (GP) Series, Skate Canada, which will be held in Vancouver in October. This announcement was made by the Japan Skating Federation on September 28th. Kihira had previously announced her withdrawal from the Chubu Championships earlier this month due to an ongoing fatigue fracture in her right ankle. Her chances of participating in this season’s Japanese NAtionals (December, Nagano) have now diminished.

Her statement reads as follows:

“Thank you as always for your support. I have decided to withdraw from Skate Canada this time. In pursuit of my dream for the 2026 Milan Olympics, I have had discussions with my coach and made the decision to prioritize the complete recovery of my injury this year. Next season, my primary focus will be on regaining my health and performance to their fullest, and I aim to give my all in pursuit of the top. My ultimate goal is the 2026 Milan Olympics. I would be grateful if you could continue to support and follow my skating in the future.”
