The Figure Skating Federation of Russia (FFKR) has been informed of Samodelkina’s desire to join another national team but has not granted permission for it at the moment.
The 16-year-old Samodelkina is the winner of a stage of the Grand Prix of Russia and the Russian Junior Cup Final. She has been performing all types of quadruple jumps and triple axels.
Figure skater Sofia Samodelkina has received Kazakhstani citizenship through an expedited procedure.
“The Kazakhstani federation did not advocate for them. Samodelkina personally applied and has already received Kazakhstani citizenship. The current issue is about her release from the Russian Figure Skating Federation,” said a source from “R-Sport.”
“Samodelkina chose the path of expedited citizenship acquisition, as she has a relative in the family who was born in Kazakhstan. She has already received the passport and is waiting for the release from the Russian Figure Skating Federation,” stated a source from “Match TV.”
Sofya Samodelkina’s mother commented on the news of her possible move to Kazakhstan.
“Please inquire with the federation. We are also interested to know what the federation will say. For now, I won’t say anything,” said Marina Samodelkina.
The Figure Skating Federation of Russia (FFKR) does not want to release figure skater Sofia Samodelkina to the Kazakhstan team.
“The Federation does not want to release the skater who was part of the Russian national team.
The skater’s side demands her release, based on the case of Diana Davis and Gleb Smolkin, among other factors.
One option could be financial compensation, as was the case with the ice dancers, but it is not legally stipulated,” said a source from “Sport-Express.”
