Russian Figure skating team doctor at the Olympics in Beijing, Filipp Shvetsky, has filed a lawsuit against the publication “Ugol Zreniya” in Tolyatti to protect his honor, dignity, and business reputation.

“I have appealed to court because in this article, I am referred to as ‘Doctor Doping,’ thereby publicly accusing me of criminal activity without a legally binding court ruling,” Shvetsky said. “In the lawsuit, I request the publication to refute the statements published by them and also seek compensation from the publication in the amount of one ruble.”

Shvetsky worked as the team doctor for Russia at the Olympics in Beijing, during which the positive doping test of Russian figure skater Kamila Valieva became known. Due to this situation, the team has still not been awarded the gold medals for winning the team event. On February 10, 2022, the publication “Ugol Zreniya” published an article titled “Doctor from Tutberidze’s Group Will Be Suspected in the Doping Scandal with Valieva.”

In January, the Disciplinary Anti-Doping Committee of the Russian Anti-Doping Agency (RUSADA) acquitted Valieva, finding no fault or negligence in her actions. The skater only lost her victory at the 2021 Russian Nationals, where a doping test was taken, resulting in a positive result. The World Anti-Doping Agency disagreed with the verdict and appealed the decision to the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS), insisting on a four-year disqualification for Valieva. RUSADA and the International Skating Union also became parties to the case. On April 23, it was announced that CAS consolidated the appeals of all parties involved.

“In the mentioned material, I am referred to as ‘Doctor Doping,’ thereby publicly accusing me of criminal activity in the absence of a legally binding court decision,” said Shvetsky. “I have demanded compensation of just one ruble because the most important thing for me is my work. I love my profession and consider it necessary to remove suspicion from myself, excluding myself from the list of suspects in the case of Kamila Valieva. Alternatively, if the outcome is different, I am willing to accept the corresponding punishment. I cannot afford to remain a scapegoat, unable to work while casting a shadow on my employers and athletes, making them subject to reproach because of me. Therefore, an open dialogue is necessary—not the concealment of information and facts but the search for truth.”
