The Italian skater trains under the guidance of Eteri Tutberidze. After the short program at the 2023 World Championships in Saitama, he is in eighth place.
Daniel Grassl: It is difficult to skate last in the warm-up, both psychologically (I am always terribly nervous) and because the ice itself is not in perfect condition by the time you go out. I am glad that I fought; I approached the World Championships in normal shape, so I am happy that I managed to perform worthy.
Jumps are gradually returning to normal; after all, the season has not been easy, particularly with the change of coaches. It’s great that all my coaches were able to come here. Although I must admit that it made me nervous. I wanted to perform at my maximum in their presence. But I am happy that I am slowly returning to my usual state, both physically and mentally.
This season was difficult, and I always compared myself to last year’s Daniel. But I started working with a psychologist; he is from Italy. We work online, and it helped a lot. I have learned to focus on the present moment, on who I am now. There is a long way ahead—I’m already thinking about the Olympics in Milan.
