Tatiana Tarasova: Zhulin is the last berth for Katsalapov

Tatiana Tarasova about Sinitsina/Katsalapov’s change of coach:

We’ll wait and see. I think that returning to a coach who has worked with you for a long time, loved you and made you a master is a good thing, a right one. Zhulin always wanted to work with Katsalapov. But others coaches also worked with Nikita professionally. But it’s him, Nikita. He’s a talented guy, but that’s not enough. Talent without diligence is worthless.

There is a question of the psyche, he can give up a performance … He is not predisposed to a monotonous long-term work, his psyche immediately “inflames”.  In this respect, they are very alike with Kovtun, just perform in different disciplines.

Katsalapov was everywhere, now he has returned to his home, but everywhere for many years he has been doing the same things.  I really feel sorry for him. Today the circle is closed, we will expect a new attitude from this from this very adult boy. Sasha knows him well, therefore I think that Zhulin is Katsalapov’s last berth.

Of course, Sinitsina / Katsalapov are not first pair in Zhulin’s group, not the second. Sasha still has Tiffany Zahorski and Jonathan Guerreiro. He has a main pair who will defend the honor of our homeland at the Olympic Games – Bobrova / Soloviev, and there are all the rest. – Tarasova said.

Well, at least these, two are training…..together…and have some plans for next season. Taking into account all the rumours that circulate in Russian ice dance, it’s already a good news)

Sinitsina and katsalapov are without a doubt one of the worst high profile Russian dance teams ever! Maybe in fact the worst ever. Explain their 2014 and 2016 NHK performances! Not work of a competent team.

    • FS Gossips says:

At least they both can skate) And they have some perspective for next Olympic cycle. Bobrova will probably retire (she said she want kids), rumour has it Ilinykh/Zhiganshin almost parted…..Who else is left in Russian team? Tiffany and Jon, Stepanova Bukin, Loboda Drozd (who is probably the weakest Russian junior team since…..long ago)…I don’t see anyone unbeatable. Ah, forgot about madam Morozova)

      • Mad for Skating says:

Nikita standing still while Victoria does twizzles is the highlight of watching ice dance for me lol.

  2. skating fan says:

Why did Nikita and Elena split? I don’t follow ice dance but I saw their FD in Sochi and it was really impressive and the looked very promising.

    • Themainfan says:

Too much constant failure due to lack of training from interpersonal hatred for each other. Look at their performance at 2013 worlds or many many Grand Prix events or some Russian nationals! Awful.

  3. OlgaLV says:

Oh,I also want to know rumours about Russian ice dance;)

    • FS Gossips says:

Rumour #1 Ruslan Zhiganshin wants to end his career. They do not train together with Elena. She’s probably looking for new partner.

      • OlgaLV says:

That would be very sad if that’s true..

        • Gy says:

Vaytsekhovskaya talked to Kustarova and officially the pair still exists. But Elena’s ubers, with whom she regularly corresponds, have all either completely stopped posting or are trashing Ruslan’s personal life, which indicates something is definitely wrong with the pair.

Vaytsekhovskaya also wrote yesterday that Elena simply lacks the dedication to succeed in a close field. She can haul ass when there is a competition on the horizon or when some important fed official is coming, but she can’t be bothered with the day to day mundanity

          • Mad for Skating says:

            Thanks for the gossip!
Yeah I think sometimes Elena is too much of a prima donna to survive a serious sport. You have to be cool-headed to push through obstacles.

            • Gy says:

It’s not really about being a Prima Donna. Grischuk and Anissina were divas but no one can accuse them of not working hard enough and they have always shown up to their competitions prepared. Can’t say the same about Elena. And the sad part is, she will never learn from her mistakes. She surrounds herself with sycophants who keep telling her how beautiful and talented she is and how any setback is always someone else’s fault, and anybody who doesn’t think the world revolves around Elena is cruel and evil. Igor was a heartless jerk for treating I/Z no differently than his other teams. Ruslan is cold and weak because he posts pictures of his girlfriend and their dog rather than doing photo sessions with Elena. Vaytsekhovskaya is a liar and gossip monger for reporting that I/Z looked horrible and unprepared at the test skates (a report that turned out to be backed up by solid evidence). And Elena can bring her latest boyfriends (I’ve lost count of all her love interests) to any competitions and training camps she goes to (and making out with them instead of lifting weights) and her ubers will post about how wonderful it is while if Ruslan so much as has dinner with his girlfriend, he gets accused of not caring about his career.

              • Mad for Skating says:

Aye, it’s never a simple situation with Russian ice dancers. I think Elena just expects it all to come easily to her and doesn’t have the hunger she needs. Sad because she had the talent.

                • FS Gossips says:

How I see this situation. From the moment Elena and Nikita teamed up and won the Junior Worlds the same year, a lot of people were telling them that they’re so talented, so gifted, so special that all the gold in world is waiting for them. Unfortunately, they forgot to mention that talent is not everything, that it requires hard, monotonous every day work to achieve the result.

                  • Mad for Skating says:

Can’t argue there. They almost had it too easy in the beginning and now they don’t know how to fight.

          • FS Gossips says:

Well, if it’s not true and pair is no longer exist, it’s profitable for them to keep saying that everything is ok, just Ruslan is injured. Because if pair exists but injured, they will still get the funding.

            • Mad for Skating says:

Ah, the drama of trying to keep one’s spot in ice dance. And that is why I prefer pairs.

      • Themainfan says:

Look at what happened to Elena. She’s not partner material anymore.

    • Mad for Skating says:

Rumor #2: Sinitsina and Katsalapov left Marina Zueva because they were kicked out after Nikita hit Victoria.

      • OlgaLV says:

        Can’t believe it,he doesn’t look so agressive.

        • Felicity says:

Tarasova says in the interview snippet that “his psyche easily inflames” during long-term practice. People who get “inflamed” when having to engage endurance…well, you do the maths.

        • Themainfan says:

No one can explain switching from zueva to Tchaikovskaya! No one on earth.

        • Mad for Skating says:

When I first saw Nikita I got the impression of a charming young man. Then all the Ilinykh-Katsalapov hell broke loose and I didn’t know which side to believe. I’ve heard before that he can be a hothead – not sure if that means the rumor of abuse is true, but it’s possible. He seems to have a dominant personality and I don’t think that worked well with Elena’s temper. Can’t have two cooks in the same kitchen.

          • FS Gossips says:

“Then all the Ilinykh-Katsalapov hell broke loose and I didn’t know which side to believe.”
No one. They both are guilty in that break up, they both not such a nice and sweet) They’ve never been. But that’s what made them so exciting to watch.

            • Mad for Skating says:

I agree. They’re like the big affair in Anna Karenina – should you blame the husband who neglects his wife, the wife who cheats on him, or the officer who’s willing to cheat with her? They’re all to blame.

Funny enough, it was Bobrova/Soloviev who used Anna Karenina, and they’re the steady couple who’s been together since childhood and have a normal working relationship.

              • FS Gossips says:

A bit off topic) I’ve never understood the drama of Anna Karenina. First I was told that I just too young and should read it again. I’ve read it in my after 25….still don’t understand. Probably, not my book)

                • Mad for Skating says:

Yeah, there’s a lot of drama and I don’t really get the part about the peasants LOL. It’s definitely a “state of ice dance” story.

      • FS Gossips says:

Well, if you knew how emotional could be some Russian practices, with how much drama and tension…….)
