Small part from upcoming interview with Ksenia Stolbova and Fedor Klimov by tv-commentator Alexander Grishin.
Why pair skating is the most difficult discipline in your sport?
Fedor: First of all, singles are responsible only for themselves. In pairs the fate another person depends on you. Plus, in pair, male partner has more responsibility. All these lifts, twists are a very responsible moment, you have to control everything. There were accidents when girls fell from lift … This is a terrible thing. If you fall you will break yourself, but here you can cripple another person.
Again, in а pair it is necessary to constantly find a compromise, this is also a difficulty. But from a purely technical point of view, the elements are difficult, but not more difficult than a quadruple jump. Learning the elements is pretty the same, but it all depends on the fact that we have two people and much depends on the interaction. Although no matter how many years you skate together, but at some point you can not find out what is on your partner’s mind, how he feels and how he skates.
Preparing for the season, you had to change the music for the free program and took famous “Carmen”, many figure skaters skated to it, including Navka-Kostomarov, and Virtue-Moir …
Ksenia: By all accounts, Carmen is the best choice for the Olympic season for our pair. It seems that we have finally grown to this level. Secondly, the classical version of Bizet-Shchedrin will be understood at all continents. And I’m very flattered that you set the level of choosing this music by such great dancers as Tessa Virtue – Scott Moir and Tatiana Navka – Roman Kostomarov. I have reviewed almost all ice and ballet versions of Carmen, Fedor and I hope that we will be able to contribute to the ice story of this truly immortal masterpiece. By the way, if I remember correctly, in pair skating, no one has taken it yet.
Looking forward for the interview!
