Alexei Mishin: At Cup of China judgment had pro East orientation

Alexei Mishin commented on Elizaveta Tuktamysheva’s scores and performance sat Cup of China 2017.

Liza caught the triple axel only at these competitions, for the first time in the season. She tried it only here during two practices, but she had enough willpower to do it in the free program with a small mistake. The very presence of this jump made her a little bit uptight today, she did not look as fresh as she could. And such scores, apparently that’s because the judgment had pro East orientation.- Mishin said

Mishin also said that at the next competitions Lisa will do a triple axel in the short program too.

  1. Let’s call it what it is: a washed up, bitter old coach whose current students have little to no success.

Liza was not treated kindly in the competition, but aside from her, I see the Russian ladies showered in love from the judges. Alina’s PCS despite her junior-ish skating skills, Elena’s uncalled URs that made a difference in the podium placement…

    • Exactly. And there are reasons why judges wasn’t generous. It was her first solid skating in quite a long time, her programs are empty….so yes another 3a is her only chance, and consistency of course.

  3. This is funny because a lot people on different sites and also commentary claimed that Zagitova was way too generously scores in PCS and therefore should not have won. Also that Wakaba Higuchi an Mai Mihara were underscored in SP and FS.
So I really wonder where this event was pro Japan? Japan got one Silver, Zagitova won over Japan.
That shows once again that skating is still very subjevtive and that opinions vary a lot.

    • I agree. I think Liza’s low marks have nothing to do with Japanese girls. Liza just hasn’t shown good skating for a long time and judges have almost forgoten that she’s a World Champion. You can’t get a bonus for that once and forever. Liza also needs to improve her programs, because they way too empty.

English commentary on Eurosport 2 pointed out that lots of chatter is saying Eteri Tutberidze has figured out the mathematical equation that guarantees her skaters get the maximum technical points, and therefore she sacrifices the balancing of her skaters’ programs, which results in backloaded routines. They say Ms. Tutberidze doesn’t care about entertaining the audience, just about packing the second half of programs with jumps and difficult entries into those jumps. All about outcome, not about effect.

I guess some other skaters would also like to do that to win, if only they had the capability. It’s actually quite easy to spot: more Tanos, more backloading. The maths is not exactly a “secret”, and Tutberidze’s method has been discussed for a long time it’s nothing new.

    • I agree, but judges seem to see nothing wrong about that. They can show that they didn’t like it with PCS but they don’t do that.So as long as judges buy that, I don’t think it won’t change. We’ll have more and more little cuties who can jump everything in the second part.

  5. Pro East orientation? What does that even mean? If Russia is not East, I don’t know what is. I guess he meant Far East.
I generally like Mishin and respect him a lot but – you know, Zagitova won. Radionova was 3rd. Clearly anti-Russian conspiracy.
